Monte Carlo reinsurance Rendez-Vous cancelled for second year running

The longest running reinsurance gathering in the world, the Rendez-Vous de Septembre (RVS) or Monte Carlo Rendez-Vous, has been cancelled for the second year running, on worries the pandemic will not be sufficiently behind us by this September. The decision is lined up with the majority of a reasonably split market, as our sibling publication Reinsurance News had approached its large readership to evaluate their opinion on whether the occasion should be kept in 2021.
54% of respondents stated that they did not feel holding the occasion this year was a great idea.
France, which surrounds the principality of Monaco, where Monte Carlo is situated, is getting in a 3rd wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to some experts, while Italy just next door has gotten in another lockdown once again with worries of a third coronavirus wave.
While some other countries are now coming out the opposite of the instant pandemic concerns, thanks to lockdowns and rapid vaccination roll-out, it is not the same all over therefore cancelling the occasion again appears a prudent decision of the organisers at this time.
The go back to normal after the pandemic “will be progressive,” the organising RVS Association said and while limitations are being lifted on movement etc, they kept in mind that “at today time we can not forecast the exact timing of this “normalization”.”.
” Faced with significant unpredictabilities concerning the health scenario and numerous restrictions in terms of movement and assembly in September, all the members of the RVS Association have chosen to cancel the 2021 conference.,” they explained.
The organising committee said it will hold conferences and round tables on the insurance coverage and reinsurance market at the time the 2021 RVS would have been held.
The organisers now look forward with hope that the next RVS will happen from September 10th to 14th 2022, in Monaco.
Claude Tendil, President of the RVS, stated, “The directing principle behind this decision was above all the security of the ladies and guys invited to go to the RVS. The professional encounters and the quality of the discussions that happen in Monte Carlo are irreplaceable; we have faith in 2022.”.
Its been a tough year for occasion organisers, ourselves consisted of and this looks set to continue a bit longer, maybe through many of 2021. We will hold our next ILS Asia conference virtually this July, but wish to be able to welcome guests to events in individual before excessive longer.
